HYDERABAD: Abhimanyu, a nine-year-old male Bengal Tiger passed away on Monday due to chronic renal failure at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad.

Abhimanyu, the white Bengal Tiger, was born on January 2, 2015, at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad to Sire: Badri and Dam: Surekha/Sameera. He had been unwell since April 21, 2023, suffering from Nephritis, with the initial stage of renal problems. Veterinary medicine experts, tiger specialists, and other zoos were consulted regarding his health condition.

The zoo's doctors suggested various medications and treatments to address the issues. However, his condition worsened recently, and since May 5, 2024, he had been unable to wake up or walk properly. Despite repeated blood tests and continued treatment based on expert advice, his health declined further.

From May 12, 2023, he began experiencing Rheumatism and Loss of Appetite. In the past three days, he was in critical condition, experiencing lateral recumbency. Fluid therapy and medications were administered to try to revive him. However, he breathed his blast on May 14, 2024, at 2:15 p.m. in his enclosure.

The zoo authorities conducted a post-mortem examination in the presence of Veterinary Experts from L Veterinary Biologicals & Research Institute (VBRI) and

College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (CVSC), Hyderabad. The cause of death was determined to be Chronic Renal Failure. All samples were collected and sent to VBRI, Hyderabad, for detailed laboratory analysis.

"Despite the dedicated efforts of our wildlife hospital and rescue centre's veterinary team, experts, and animal keepers, we were unable to prolong the life of our majestic white tiger, Abhimanyu. We deeply mourn the loss of Abhimanyu," said the zoo authorities.
