Osmania junior docs allege assault by Afzalganj police, stage protest
Based on the complaint, police questioned lab technician Yellesh about a three-tula gold chain that went missing
HYDERABAD: The Osmania Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) staged a protest on Tuesday demanding that Afzalganj Sub-Inspector Ram Kishan be charged with assaulting a lab technician during an inquiry into a theft complaint filed by the attendants of a patient.
According to the Afzalganj police, a complaint of gold theft inside Osmania Hospital was received from a patient's family. Based on the complaint, they questioned lab technician Yellesh about a three-tula gold chain that went missing.
The TJUDA claimed that the police thrashed Yellesh during the investigation, an allegation refuted by the Afzalgunj police who maintained that they only inquired verbally.
Dr G Srikanth, President of the Osmania Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA), said, "We strongly oppose the police action of assaulting the lab technician without any evidence of theft. We demand that sub-inspector Ram Kishan be held accountable for thrashing our lab technician in the name of inquiry.”
Afzalgunj Inspector M Ravinder Reddy said, "We received a complaint from a patient's family that a three-tula chain went missing from the patient's neck. We suspected a lab technician, a nurse and a doctor. We inquired with the lab technician and asked the doctor to come to the police station for questioning. That is why, the doctors were outraged and staged a protest at their hospital today"
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections and investigation was going on.
