Passenger arrested at Shamshabad Airport for smuggling gold worth Rs 45 lakh
The accused, identified as Sheik Chand Basha, arrived at the airport from Kuwait on an IndiGo flight with 700 grams of illegal gold
HYDERABAD: Customs sleuths at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, along with CISF officials, detained a person who travelled from Kuwait to Hyderabad and seized a huge amount of gold from his possession.
The accused, identified as Sheik Chand Basha, arrived at the airport from Kuwait on an IndiGo flight with 700 grams of illegal gold. The accused tried to escape after sensing that he was noticed by the airport staff. However, the CISF and customs officials acted swiftly and detained Basha along with his car driver Mohammad Asif at the parking lot when they were trying to flee.
Basha reportedly confessed to the crime during the preliminary interrogation. The officials registered a case and seized gold amounting to Rs 45 lakh.
