HYDERABAD: Mahankali Police seized 20 gold biscuits, each 100 grams, worth Rs 1.20 crore during a vehicle check near Swapnalok complex, SD Road here on Tuesday, as part of enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

In an official statement released on Wednesday, Hyderabad North Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Chandana Deepthi said that the gold biscuits were seized from Kummari Srikanth (27), a worker in Sahasra Jewellery shop in Buddavaripet in Nirmal district. The investigation revealed that Srikanth reached Hyderabad to collect the gold biscuits from two jewelry shops following the instructions of his owner Rajashekar and Arun, owner of Siddi Vinayaka Jewellery in Adilabad, she said.

The DCP said that Srikanth collected nine gold biscuits from Caps Gold in RP Road and the remaining 11 from M Rajender Kumar jewelry shop at General Bazar. The police noticed the suspicious movements of Srikanth and seized gold biscuits during the vehicle check in SD Road.

“We are investigating the case from all possible angles to identify sources for securing cash for purchasing the gold biscuits. The police will also verify the IT returns in this regard,” Chandana Deepthi said, and added that after detailed investigation, the matter would be taken into the notice of the Returning Officer, 62-Sanath Nagar Constituency to take appropriate action.
