As per the reports of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), dry weather is extremely likely to prevail over Telangana, with maximum temperatures rising by 2°C-4°C in isolated pockets from May 10 to May 15, 2023.

The cyclonic storm 'Mocha' over southeast Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 8 kmph during past six hours and lay centred at 8:30 am on May 11, 2023 over the same region near latitude 11.4°N and longitude 88.0°E, about 510 km west-southwest of Port Blair, 1,190 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar (Bangladesh) and 1,100 km south-southwest of Sittwe (Myanmar).

According to IMD, the Cyclone is expected to continue north-northwestwards and gradually intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Thursday night. It is expected to recurve gradually, move north eastwards beginning May 12 morning and intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm over the central Bay of Bengal by May 12 evening.

Cyclone Mocha would be at its most intense around May 13, 2023. It is likely to cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar), close to Sittwe (Myanmar) around noon of May 14, 2023 with maximum sustained wind speed of 140-150 kmph gusting to 165 kmph.

Cyclone Mocha brought relief from the heatwave in Hyderabad with sudden rains.

Despite a heatwave warning in Hyderabad and neighbouring regions, unexpected showers, induced by Cyclone Mocha, gave respite to Hyderabadis on Thursday. The city experienced isolated thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds, that lasted over an hour on Thursday afternoon.

According to Telangana Weatherman T Balaji, this type of rain usually occurs when a cyclone is forming; however, once the cyclone begins to rise, the heat would be intense. Meanwhile, in rural Telangana, the temperature crossed 44 degrees Celsius on May 11, 2023 and the temperatures would rise in the coming days, he added.
