10 medicos suspended from Gandhi Medical College for ragging of juniors

HYDERABAD: Case of ragging has come to light in Gandhi Medical College in the City. As many as 10 students of the college were suspended for ragging their juniors. The barbaric act was in fact banned and the students were time and again warned against indulging in ragging. Director of Medical Education Dr D Ramesh Reddy confirmed the suspension of the students from the hostel for one year.

The anti-ragging committee conducted an enquiry into the incident and detected that 10 senior MBBS students had indulged in ragging their juniors. All of the 10 students were suspended from the college for one year.

Stating that the government had zero tolerance for ragging, Dr Ramesh Reddy warned students in all medical colleges - both government and private - against indulging in ragging, lest they would be punished under the anti-ragging laws.

Despite strict warning, the 10 students indulged in ragging of first year MBBS students in Gandhi Hospital and the same was informed to the University Grants Commission and also National Medical Council.

The National Medical Council in a circular asked all medical colleges to strictly ensure that ragging did not occur in their institutions. The NMC also said that action must be initiated against the offenders under Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges and Institution, Regulations, 2021.
