GHMC laying 90-km cycling tracks to hyper urbanise city

HYDERABAD: In its efforts to make Hyderabad a city with international living standards, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is laying cycling tracks in a distance of over 90 km across the city.

Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, along with other officials, from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department, identified the need to curb traffic problems and as part of this mission, cycling tracks are being laid under the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Plan (CRMP).

The GHMC has already worked on improving the transport system, providing signal-free commute, beautifying the city and adding cosmopolitan aspects to the transport system. The forest area around the city has also been increased by 147 percent.

GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi said that the cycling tracks were being developed with an objective of improving the transport system as well as physically and mentally benefit the people.

Around 90-km track will be laid across the city at various locations as per the CRMP, a few of which would be permanently set up and the others would be temporary.

• A 3-km cycling track will be permanently constructed from Habsiguda Cross Road to Uppal Chowrasta in LB Nagar zone.
• From Bairamalguda Cross Road to Owaisi Junction a permanent 4-km track will be laid.
• A permanent model corridor would be constructed from Owaisi junction to Aram Ghar and from Aram Ghar to PDP Junction.
• A 6-km temporary track will be laid around KBR park and another 6-km will be laid around OU colony, Senor Valley Road No. 82 and Jubilee Hills Road No. 45 each.
• Six-km tracks will also be laid around Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge and from Ikea to Biodiversity Park in Raidurg.
• Cycling tracks would also be laid around Khajaguda to Care hospital and 10-km track would be laid in the Kukatpally area.
• A 25-km track from Hyderanagar to Bala Nagar and a 4-km track from Mettuguda X Road to Habsiguda X Road will be laid.
• A 6-km track will also be laid from Buddha Bhavan to Indira Gandhi Statue via Necklace Road.

The temporary tracks would be laid in the early morning, till around 8:00 am and would be removed for normal traffic flow afterwards.
