HYDERABAD: Officials of the handloom textiles enforcement department on Saturday conducted raids at South India Shopping Mall in Kothapet of Hyderabad. The raids were conducted, based on a tipoff that the said mall was allegedly selling fake handloom textiles.
Confirming the raids, an official of the handloom textiles enforcement said that they had received a complaint that fake handloom textiles were being sold at the mall. He promised legal action against the promoters of the business establishment.
He stated that, according to the Handloom Preservation Act, the Union Government had reserved 11 items for handloom weavers and claimed that some textile industries were mistakenly affixing stickers on the reserved items and selling them to the public in the name of handloom products in such shopping malls.
