IndvsAus T20I: Back in the 'black', police in the 'front'

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police came under fire after a video surfaced showing a few cops buying tickets for a cricket match on a day when fans were lathicharged and about 20 persons were injured in a stampede at the Gymkhana Grounds. The incident came amid allegations that a huge chunk of the tickets were being diverted to be sold in black market. The India vs Australia T20I match is scheduled to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Uppal on September 25.

Earlier on Thursday, the cops were seen wielding lathis and caning restive fans who were upset over the issue of ticket sales. Within hours, some of the policemen were caught on camera blissfully purchasing match tickets through the back door at the Gymkhana.

The video, which went viral on social media platforms, invited the wrath of netizens. On the other hand, it only added fuel to the fire to the already irate fans, who were feeling robbed of their chance of buying the tickets. A fan, who was reportedly present at the Gymkhana grounds in his attempts to buy tickets, captured the policemen queuing up for tickets and getting them backdoor.

The fan who could also be heard in the video highlighted how a few Hyderabad police constables were purchasing tickets without any hassles while thousands of ordinary fans were being made to wait in long queues.

Netizens and fans who were unable to purchase tickets for the India vs Australia T20 match in Hyderabad criticised the Hyderabad police for their actions.
