International departures to be moved to main building in RGIA as part of GHIAL expansion works

HYDERABAD: Passengers flying out of Hyderabad to international destinations will soon be rid of a hassle-free experience what with the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) deciding to move the international departures from the current Haj Terminal to the main building of the Rajiv Gandhi INternational Airport from November 28.

This decision was taken as part of the RGIA's expansion, and would be shifted to the main building, said RGIA in a tweet.

Passengers flying abroad would not have to go to the current Haj international terminal and pass through a lot of hardship. In fact, Newstap has explained how painful the boarding is at the Haj terminal for the international flyers, a couple of months ago.

RGIA would be able to cater to a much larger footfall with GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) carrying out expansion works at the airport. The work would be completed by 2023. As part of the expansion, the company is developing the interior, connectivity as well as the runways. Recently, new international flights to Iraq and Vietnam were also introduced.

The Haj terminal would be decommissioned, according to an official spokesperson of the GHIAL. However, international arrivals would continue from the main building as always.

According to reports, the revamped departure terminal would have around 150 check-in counters, 26 security screening machines, 44 immigration counters and more lounges and shopping and food outlets.
