Narendra Modi to set off Rs 7,000-cr worth projects in Hyderabad on Jan. 19

HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Hyderabad on January 19 to dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone for various projects worth Rs 7,000 crores.

As part of his visit to Telangana, the second in a span of two months, Modi will first flag off the most eagerly awaited Vande Bharat Express at the Secunderabad Railway Station at 10 am. The semi-high-speed electric multiple unit train, which will be run between Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam, is going to be the eighth in the Vande Bharat Express series to be made operational. The prestigious train will cover the distance between the two destinations in approximately eight hours with intermediate stops including Warangal, Khammam, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry.

After flagging off the train, the Prime Minister will take part in Bhumi Puja for multiple works worth Rs 699 crores for the development of Secunderabad Railway Station. Modi will then reach nearby Parade Grounds where he is expected to address a public meeting.

Before that, he will also perform the bhumi puja for about 150 km of roads as part of national highways which would be built at a cost of Rs 1,850 crores. This includes 103 km of National Highway 167N in the Mahabubnagar-Chincholi section and 46 km of national highway roads in the Nizampet-Narayankhed-Bidar section of NH 161B.

The programme will also include laying the foundation stone for a Railway Periodic Overhauling (PoH) Workshop to be constructed at Kazipet at a cost of Rs 521 crores. The PoH will enable critical examination of railway coaches for corrosion, structural damage and stability to ascertain their stability. The project, once completed, is expected to generate direct employment to about 3,000 people.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate to the nation the 85-km doubling railway line between Secunderabad and Mahabubnagar that was constructed at a cost of Rs 1,410 crores. Also dedicated to the nation on this occasion will be various buildings constructed at IIT, Hyderabad (Kandi). These new facilities, built at a cost of Rs 2,597 crores, will accommodate 5,000 students.

These include academic buildings for each department, 18 hostel buildings that can accommodate 4,500 students, five faculty and staff towers that can house 250 families, technology research park, technology innovation park, research centre complex, convention centre, undergraduate core labs and administration blocks.

Narendra Modi’s visit to Hyderabad also assumes political prominence as it comes a day after Telangana Chief Minister and President of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will hold a massive public meeting in Khammam on January 18. At least three chief ministers, a former CM besides several leaders of national prominence are expected to take part in the meeting.
