Sankranthi: Don’t fly kites near transformers, electric wires
Telangana electricity department appealed to the public to fly kites in open spaces without electric wires and transformers
HYDERABAD: Sankranthi, the harvest festival, also brings in unbridled revelry of kite-flying by the young and old. Every year, a few aberrations, in the form of mishaps due to unsafe practices, are reported. Keeping this in view, the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd (TSSPDCL) has appealed to general public to fly kites in open spaces away from electric wires and transformers. The department issued an advisory of precautions to the public, as kite-flying near electric poles or transformers could turn out to be fatal and also might cause damage to properties.
The department said that children should fly kites under constant supervision of adults. Reportedly, ‘manja’ can transmit very high-voltage power on coming in contact with live wires. Therefore, the department advised that children should refrain from flying kites near high-power transmission lines.
