SCR special drive: 1,986 cases booked, Rs 15.43 lakh collected in fines

HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway on Wednesday conducted an extensive day-long ticket checking drive at the Secunderabad station, encompassing a variety of departing and arriving Express train services.

A total of 48 Express Trains were inspected, involving the deployment of 82 ticket checking personnel during this drive.  Overall, Rs 15.43 lakhs were collected from 1,986 various cases, including travelling without a ticket, irregular travel, unbooked luggage, etc.

The drive was conducted by K.Padmaja, South Central Railway's Chief Commercial Manager (Passenger Services). The key objective of this ticket-checking campaign is to minimise hardships for reserved passengers and to stop ticketless and irregular travel in express train coaches, both reserved and unreserved, in addition to raising public awareness of the dangers of irregular travel.

The ticket checking team was briefed of the execution strategy before to the ticket checking drive and given strict instructions on how to carry out the activity in order to capture unauthorised travellers. The drive took place between the stations of Secunderabad and Kazipet on board the trains Nos. 18519 Vishakapatnam- Lokmanyatilak Terminus and No. 18046 East Coast Express.

The functioning of newly introduced Hand Held Terminals was also tested for transparent berth checking and allocation, real-time transferring of vacant berths to current Reservations. CCM has also reviewed the operation of catering services in trains and at stations, including food quality and hygiene.
