A 34-year-old Hyderabad woman who had been abandoned by her husband after giving birth to a girl continued to protest
HYDERABAD: A 34-year-old Hyderabad woman who had been abandoned by her husband after giving birth to a girl continued to protest outside his home in Lokayukta Colony, Saidabad, on Wednesday. She was accompanied by her parents, her three children, and a large group of local women activists today.
G Swapna attempted to storm into the husband's home while accompanied by female activists and yell for justice. According to reports, the husband, identified as G Srikanth, agreed to take her back home, but he prefers to keep his wife and kids in a different house.
Women activists protesting outside her husband's home have stated that they will not leave until Swapna and her three children receive justice. Swapna and her parents filed a police complaint with Saidabad police station three days ago, but no FIR has been filed, according to one of the women activists.
One of the female activists who spoke with the media stated, "Swapna was tortured and abandoned by her husband for having a girl child. Her sister-in-laws, who also live at Swapna's inlaws' home, tortured her as well. How can sisters-in-law stay at her parents' house permanently after marriage and torture their brother's wife? We demand justice for Swapna and her children. We will not leave until justice is served on them ".
"I personally visited the protest site today to speak to Swapna but she refused to speak to us," Saidabad Additional Inspector Chandramohan told Newstap. I'm attempting to speak with her to find out the precise issue. Since it is a personal matter for the couple, we have not yet filed an FIR in this case. Instead, we are trying to help the couple work through it through counselling. My conversation with her husband revealed that he believes the problem is not one of dowry harassment but rather something else. As far as I can tell, Swapna doesn't want stay with her sister-in-law. Swapna was asked by Srikanth to live separately in a different home, but she isn't ready for that either. It is said that she wants to remain in the same house but without Sister-in-laws. I'll try to contact Swapna once more to determine the precise problem. Will work to find a quick solution to this problem".
Meanwhile, the Telangana Human Rights Commission took suo motu cognizance of a newspaper clipping of the treatment meted out to Swapna and called for report of the ACP Malakpet by August 24.
