NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing on TPCC president Revanth Reddy's cash-for-vote case to August 28 after his counsel sought time citing unavoidable reasons.

However, the apex court advised the lawyers not to seek further adjournments.

TPCC president Revanth Reddy and BRS MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah filed petitions in the Supreme Court in the 2015 cash-for-vote case and the hearing on these petitions is scheduled today. However, the lawyers of Revanth Reddy have written to the Supreme Court seeking postponement of the hearing to which the apex court gave a nod.

Meanwhile, the lawyers on behalf of the Telangana government requested the apex court to immediately hear the case considering the gravity of the case. However, the Bench comprising Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Bela M Trivedi adjourned the case till August 28.

During the MLC elections held in Telangana in 2015, the cash-for-vote case gained significant attention as then TDP MLA Revanth Reddy engaged in negotiations with nominated Anglo-Indian MLA Elvis Stephenson to secure his support for TDP candidate in the election.

The audio recordings wherein TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu talking to Stephenson and a video of Revanth Reddy handing over Rs. 50 lakh to Stephenson were released and the forensic reports of the same confirmed Revanth Reddy's role in the case.

The Enforcement Directorate has filed a charge sheet in the case and the hearing on it is adjourned to August 28.
