HYDERABAD: Former Minister and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao criticised the state government for failing to provide safety to women and girls, highlighting the increasing cases of violence across the state.

In a tweet, Harish Rao expressed anger over the government's alleged negligence, noting that despite warnings raised in the Assembly, the authorities have not taken adequate action to improve the situation.

Harish Rao pointed out that incidents of sexual assault are occurring almost daily in the state, which, he argued, reflects a severe lapse in maintaining law and order. He specifically referred to two recent cases involving minors that he said had deeply disturbed him. According to Harish Rao, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Home Ministry portfolio, has been unsuccessful in maintaining peace and security for women.

He further criticised the Congress government, stating that while they boast about "Indiramma Rajyam", they have failed to prioritise the safety of women. He argued that the current administration’s negligence has allowed over 2,000 rape cases to occur in just nine months of their rule, calling it a clear indication of the worsening situation.

Harish Rao also pointed out that the previous government had taken significant steps to protect women, such as introducing SHE Teams and establishing Sakhi centres for support. He claimed that such initiatives, which once played a crucial role in ensuring women's safety, are now being neglected. He urged the government to wake up from its "deep sleep" and take immediate steps to enhance safety measures.

The BRS leader demanded strict punishment for those involved in the assaults on minors, calling for effective action to deter such incidents in the future. He emphasised that protecting women should be a priority, and the government must take decisive steps to address the rising crimes against them.
