Revanth Reddy welcomes Supreme Court verdict on SC sub-categorisation

The Chief Minister assured to take necessary steps to ensure reservations for the Madiga and Mala sub-castes in the current job notifications.

HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy welcomed the Supreme Court's verdict on the sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs).

Making a statement in the Assembly on Thursday, Revanth Reddy expressed gratitude to the judgement delivered by the Supreme Court's constitutional bench supporting the sub-categorisation of SCs, which includes the Madiga and Mala sub-castes.

The Chief Minister recalled that the previous BRS government had suspended Congress MLA Sampath Kumar for moving an adjournment motion on SC sub-categorisation. He also claimed that on December 23, 2023, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu and Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha sent the Advocate General to the Supreme Court to present arguments with legal experts.

"The Telangana government's efforts have borne fruit, and the Supreme Court's decision has been welcomed wholeheartedly. The state government has decided to implement the sub-categorisation of SCs into categories A, B, C, and D, in line with the Supreme Court's ruling," he said.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister said that his government would take necessary steps to ensure reservations for the Madiga and Mala sub-castes are implemented in the current job notifications. He announced that the government would introduce an ordinance to facilitate this process if required.
