BRS MLA Malla Reddy urges ex-gratia for family of farmer who died by suicide

The MLA demanded compensation for Surender Reddy's family, who took his own life due to loan waiver delays.

HYDERABAD: Medchal MLA Ch Malla Reddy has urged the Telangana government to provide full support and announce ex-gratia for the family of Surender Reddy, a farmer who died by suicide.

Surender Reddy, distressed over the delay in the loan waiver, took his life at the Medchal agriculture office on Friday morning. His body was moved to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad.

Former ministers Harish Rao, Sabitha Indra Reddy, and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, along with MLA Malla Reddy, paid tributes to the deceased farmer at the hospital and offered condolences to his family.

Malla Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, "It is heartbreaking to see a farmer's body in the mortuary because of the unfulfilled loan waiver." He urged farmers not to take such drastic steps due to loan issues and reassured them that the BRS party would stand by them. He also called on the Congress government to fulfil its manifesto promise of loan waivers for all farmers.
