HYDERABAD: The Telangana Government has granted amnesty to 213 prisoners, ordering their early release based on good behavior.

This decision comes after family members of the prisoners submitted petitions to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, urging for the release of their relatives who have been incarcerated for extended periods.

Responding to these appeals, the Chief Minister directed a thorough examination of the applications, following guidelines set by both central and state governments. Senior officials meticulously scrutinised the requests and compiled a list of eligible candidates, which was then reviewed by a High-Level Committee.

The committee subsequently presented the list to the state Cabinet, which approved the release. Following the Governor's endorsement, the state government issued orders on Tuesday for the release of the prisoners.

As per these orders, 213 inmates will be released from Cherlapally Jail on Wednesday. Among them, 205 were serving life sentences, while eight were serving shorter terms. All released prisoners had undergone skill development training in various professions during their incarceration and received counseling to facilitate their reintegration into society through improved behaviour.
